Identity verification (KYC)

Verified identity is what makes a marketplace safe to transact in. Liivra checks that people are who they say they are before money or keys change hands.

What the check does

Identity verification (KYC) runs three checks on your South African ID:

• Document OCR — reads and validates your SA ID document.
• Face match — compares your selfie to the ID photo.
• Liveness — confirms a real, present person, not a photo of a photo.

How it's decided

Liivra combines Smile Identity with its own in-house machine-learning models to reach a consensus decision. Two independent signals agreeing is far harder to fool than one — it's a deliberate belt-and-braces design, not a single vendor's yes/no.

(Liivra uses Smile ID plus its own ML for this — Onfido is not part of the flow.)

How to verify

1. Go to Account → Verification.
2. Choose Verify identity.
3. Photograph your SA ID, take a selfie, and complete the liveness prompt.
4. You'll get the result shortly — most checks resolve quickly.

What it unlocks

A verified identity earns you a badge and moves you up the Verified Identity tiers. Higher tiers build trust with the people you rent to, buy from, or sell to — and some actions require it. Your documents are handled under POPIA with your explicit consent.
