Liivra Pay & escrow
How your deposit is protected — held in a registered trust account until both parties confirm.
Last updated 2026-07-21
Liivra Pay is Liivra's escrow layer, powered by TradeSafe. Your deposit and first payment are held in a registered trust account — not paid to the landlord, not held by Liivra — and only released when both parties confirm the deal. No handing over cash, no chasing anyone on WhatsApp for your money back.
How it works
- You pay into trust. After your application or offer is accepted, you pay the deposit through the app. Funds route to the TradeSafe trust account.
- Funds are held. Nothing moves while your money sits in trust. You can see the status in the app at any time.
- Both parties confirm. On move-in confirmation, the funds are released to the landlord — minus the Liivra Pay fee. A dispute pauses the release until it's resolved.
The fee
- 1.5% of the deposit on rentals.
- 0.5% of the price on sales.
- Capped at R29,999.
The fee is deducted from the deposit at release — there's no upfront cost.
Why it's safe
TradeSafe holds escrow funds in a registered trust account and operations are compliant with the Rental Housing Act. Every movement carries a full audit trail. Your deposit never lands in a stranger's bank account.
Look for the Liivra Pay badge on a listing to confirm escrow protection is enabled for that property.
